If oriental fashion looks with admiration the great european haute couture and classic glamour of the cinema divas, here we have learned to know classical lines of its fashion, inventing a woman (but also a man) that interprets and synthesizes all these suggestions.
In this way born splendid folk collections that looks to the future through the tradition. Tied coiffure to exalt sensual line of the neck, wide sleeves with big hems, thin waist dress with big belts or underbust corsets, diaphanous skin and strong make up, high wedges that exalt the fine line of ankle and much more.
Japanese kimono and chinese qipao (but also Thai costume from Thailandia, hanbok from Korea and kebaya from Indonesia) are the traditional dresses more revisited by western culture, all the greatest designers are reinvented them: from Roberto Cavalli to Jean Paul Gaultier, passing through Armani, Valentino, Marras and me too (my graduate fashion show was inspired by oriental empresses).
The unchanged perfection of a symbolic dress that withstands time contributes to the cyclical return of this one on the catwalks of the world. For example Albert Elbaz, creative director of Lanvin maison, in one of his collections has united the giapponesism to the dark and punk spirit of the eighties, creating a post-modern geisha dressed by draped black silk, a dark lady that walks sinuously in a city-scene of film noir.
Is so different the vision of Alexander McQueen (r.i.p.) or Antonio Marras. The first pursues his "unconventional aesthetics" and has reinterpreted the kimono as a something rock, proposing minidress with big psychedelic obi and stiletto ankleboots. On the contrary Kenzo by Marras has synthesized his experience purifying the qipao from explicit erotic allusion to exalt its functional only.
Also great designers made in Asia as Yamamoto and Miyake appreciate love that western designers feel for asian cultures, and they are united to the same feeling, in fact there are asian suggestions in every their collections.
If it's true that fashion charms and betrays us season by season, and style remains faithful, it won't be monotonous to see, time by time, the charm of exotic taste.
