We are running out. Only two days at the end of Paris Fashion Week and then everything will return to the natural calm that we need...after so much stress. While S/S p-à-p collections are still in progress, Fashilosophy chose the first griffes that, with a wave of color and imaginative flair, have animated the parisienne catwalks, giving us a smile.
We know very well the natural inclination to eccentricity and wit of John Galliano, who once again didn't disappoint us, catapulting us into the bizarre Maria Lani's adventure, a woman who pretended to be an actress in the '20s and convinced many famous parisian artists (such as Matisse, Chagall, Léger and others) to portray her on the pretext of wanting to use the paintings in the set of her movie, but once finished the paintings, the fake actress ran away with all artworks. A bizzarre adventure, bizarre as is Galliano's woman, dressed by ruffles and veils in an explosion of colors and prints reminiscent the works of Paris art scene of '20s.
Jean Paul Gaultier, the enfant prodige of unconventional, challenged the dictate of thinness with a great provocation: Beth Ditto as a model, the Gossip's famous singer from excessive weight, making her the inspiration of a very glamrock collection, with fluo makeup and postpunk hairstyles, for a strong woman.
Last of the three "extravagant" chosen by Fashilosophy is Manish Arora (which I had the pleasure of knowing during the collective fashion show at AltaRoma, I attended with a capsule couture collection). The indian designer revisited a classic of french culture, the Baroque, combining it with a futuristic imaginary inspired by Lady Gaga, creating a collection with bright colors and metallic details. A dame de Versailles abducted by aliens and brought back to earth.
Siamo agli sgoccioli.
Style Icon of this month: Tilda Swinton. British Actress, model and artists' muse. Katherine Mathilda was the daughter of the British upper class' family and after graduating at West Heath Girls' School (the same class as Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales), she graduated in political and social sciences at the University of Cambridge.
She started her career in theater acting in the Royal Shakespeare Company and worked with Traverse Theatre of Edinburgh. Between 1985 and 1994 she started her career in cinema with a long collaboration with director, set designer and painter Derek Jarman who makes her his muse and his actress-model, bringing it closer to the GLBT filmography. With her ethereal beauty and her particular androgynous physicality, Tilda carves out a role of élites in historical and ambiguous productions, giving evidence of skill and expertise unmatched. In 1995, with producer and friend Joanna Scanlan, Swinton developed a performance/installation art piece in which as a live exhibit in the Serpentine Gallery of London she was on display to the public for a week, asleep or apparently so, in a glass case, as a piece of performance art. The piece is sometimes credited to Cornelia Parker, whom Swinton invited to collaborate for the installation in London. The following year, the performance, entitled The Maybe, was repeated at the Museo Barracco in Rome. In 1991 she won the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress at the 48th Venice International Film Festival for the interpretation of Queen Isabella of France in Derek Jarman's Edward II. In 1998 she's a member of the jury of the Venice Film Festival, and she's in a jury of Cannes International Film Festival also, in 2004. In 2009 she was president of the jury at the Berlinale, Berlin Film Festival. In 2008 he won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for Michael Clayton.

A bit Uptowngirl a bit Indie Rocker, the look of this weekend is an explosive concentration of strength and tenderness! Timeless elegance of black and power of the electric blue!

In the transience of our lives to know how to enjoy every moment and be able to exploit in functional way anything around us is surely a good thing, from time to material things that our life is full.
The amazing dutch duoLernert & Sander knows this concept very well 'cause they are the creators of a funny (but also too reflexive) installation for the Selfridges' windows, one of the most famous chain of luxury department stores in London.
Their purpose is to take seven elements from our everyday domestic life, the most boring and banal, transforming them in art-works that make people think and to approach with sparkling fashion glamour...a sort of Dadaist process of the nineteenth century!
So, L&S said: "We wanted to turn stock items into startlingly smart footwear. A humorous take on fashion as an ideal escape from the daily grind", turning dishwasher in a oversize Chanel's clog, sewing machines in YSL's skyscrapers shoes, two communes electric irons in Stella McCartney's black stilettos...
Honesly I find the work so enjoyable and stimulating that it's almost a shame not to wear them really to deal with such determination boring routine that this installation wants to deny.

L&S hanno dichiarato infatti "We wanted to turn stock items into startlingly smart footwear.
Also this time we're survivors to the latest edition of Milan Fashion Week and it's time to sum up what milan catwalks have proposed us. We felt the shows in london a bit down in the dumps than ever, few colors, a little excessive creative flair and real attention to the portability and simplicity of lines and shapes; and Milan followed the same philosophy.
Undoubtedly the crisis plays a key role, but designers know how to deal it and know when to exceed and when come back in the lines...just like they did this time.
S/S 2011 proposed by Milan fashion week is a tribute to simplicity and modesty, and it's increasingly nedeed to return to emphasize the boundary between the "spectacle of fashion" and what is it, on the contrary, and fashion for real life of everyday.
Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, Marras and Prada opted for color and for an evergreen of s/s collections: print fabrics and floral motifs on soft textiles, probably with the evocative intention to dust off carefree and bucolic spirit of romantic past, and move away for a while from alienating reality of all days...we have much appreciated it. Pucci and Cavalli opted for a strong messages of printed fabric and precious leather 'cause their woman is a temptress nike on the femininity streets.
Armani are always amazing and bleu will be the new spring yellow.
Moschino and Gucci are doubtless the griffes that that have most impressed Fashilosophy because they proposed us a woman extremely faithful to the brand history. Fashion is a succession of trends and ups and downs of style, then we don't wonder that some brands leave its guidelines to try something else for few seasons. Gucci and Moschino have done just that in recent years, but this time loyalty to themselves and their history has won on everything.
Rossella Jardini's woman is so aggressive and excessive in her big white, red and black polkadot dress, and with those eccentric jewels seems straight out of a comics or tipically french variety show. Gucci with the creative leadership of Frida Giannini is enjoying a second era of success and proposed a refined young woman so as to be timeless. Elegant in her communicative power and with a strong idea of personal style.

As was for Sex and the City few years ago, the new TV series are affected the lives and fashion choices throughout an whole generation of young people struggling with their problems... that are not the same as a time, certainly! Gossip Girl, the american teen-drama that chronicles the lives of luxury and carefree offspring of the Upper East Side of Manhattan (just launched its fourth season, set partly in fashionable Paris), has triggered a real griffe-mania that controls trends in style and influences exponentially young guys under 20 of the civilized world. Sophisticated, refined and absolutely cool the stars' outfits of this series don't lack anything, and in a moment of crisis like this where many ordinary people survive the real life, easily appear on screen cult-items of the most famous designers. The BurberryWarrior bag, a Valentino Maisonstudded bag, the Orniron boots by Louboutin, the Hermès evergreen Birkin and many other coolest must-have, from catwalk to the most popular school of Manhattan. This phenomenon, also includes other TV series such as 90210, Lipstick Jungle, Cashmere Mafia and the snobs ZBZ's girls of Greek, is booming and important newspapers like the New York Times and International Herald Tribune had to focus on all this, explaining how television is helping the fashion world much more of the numerous advertising campaigns, expensive and well targeted. «The tv shows has a great influence on our business - said Stephanie Solomon, director of Bloomingdale's - because that kind of clothing fits well not only to adolescents but also young women, that we might consider daughters or younger sisters of generation of aspiring Sex and the City's glamoristas».
Is not just the fact to copy a style, but to go looking for specific items worn by characters in sitcom. Travis Chneider knows it very well, he's the founder of StarBrand Media, an important on-line stores that sells clothes and accessories used in the original telefilms, films and in TV shows, and Travis said "shop monthly hits increased by 50%". American fashion designer Anna Sui has done much more, drawing for Target a "Gossip Girls Inspired collection" proposing the different styles of the four main protagonists and ensuring brand sales record. But to consolidate the successful relationship between TV and fashion are the fashion house with their TV advertising because they recruiting a world-renowned directors and actors to create real short films, used to increase the interest of the spectators and brand-loyalty also. For example, the last miracle we got to Gucci tha for its fragrance commercial "Gucci Guilty" has entrusted all to beautiful Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans, directed by Frank Miller, creator of Sin City.
For real fashion-victims will be awfully hard not to live in the big apple, can not jump from one to another fashionweek aboard a private jet and not to have the platinum card with unlimited fund as protagonists of these serials, but with a trained eye to catch new trends, you can be in vogue defying the crisis.
